dollop dance theater is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary dance company creating accessible, approachable works using a light-hearted lens of humor and humility. dollop believes in the power of collaboration and uplifting other artists. In 2020, dollop dance theater performed a work-in-progress showing, a live and socially distanced show, and created multiple dance films.
In the spring of 2021, dollop dance theater will premiere its third full-length dance film, “S P A C E.” In “S P A C E,” a lone astronaut finds herself getting a lot of distance from her loved ones on Earth. This work will explore the idea of taking and giving space, as well as exploring the recent impacts of forced isolation. “S P A C E” is being created through an interdisciplinary process that includes poetry, visual art, movement, and more. The full film will include musical movements from "lunaris," a new album by Joey Chimes, dollop's resident composer, inspired by the phases of the moon. Additionally, this dance film will be a collaboration with the dancer and donors, who all received a short movement score and have been encouraged to send in videos of their interpretations.
