“The Lichtenberg Figures” is a found footage film constructed entirely from online videos. The narration is composed of a series of excerpted passages sampled across authors, eras, subjects, and genres. All video clips were found using search terms derived from the texts themselves (not all of which appear in the final film).
The film is an exercise in overcharging associative connections, both constructed and inherent, within the given materials. The core elements of the film are already bound together by their shared presence with the archives of the internet and literature — “The Lichtenberg Figures” merely attempts to shake and electrify the snowglobe. The real source of charge is the viewer of course, burning fractal patterns out of the random and interrelated.
This premise (including some passages, ideas, sounds, and images) is essentially lifted from “The Relentless Picnic Podcast”. Please give them a listen. This film could not exist without their work. It’s not like other podcasts. It changed my life.
